Joining Technorati: good or bad idea?
To attract more traffic it seems like a good idea to join Technorati, the site everybody is talking about these days. But as I wanted to know a bit more about them, I googled them. Also to see what the thoughts of other users on the effect of Technorati and SEO were. I stumbled upon an interesting story from GigaOM, entitled: The Dark side of Technorati Tags. An interesting read for sure. Especially where they state:
So this is where I lose the plot – I tag my post, Technorati benefits, and despite all that, my tags help spammers who clog my RSS readers gain more readers. That’s absolutely rotten! So essentially the spammers can write a script, generate tags, stay high on the Technorati listings and fool people into visiting their sites. By tagging I am helping this scumbags, the RSS-link blog spammers. This is clearly not going to help Technorati (or infact anyone’s reputation) as a good search tool.
Hmm, gets you thinking, doesn’t it? Why does a good idea always have to turn into a bad product, whenever the wrong people start to mess with it? Google seems to be going this way too … more about this in my next post.
OK, I am still joining Technorati, but will keep an eye on how things are developing on the net ![]()
