Full List of Ping Services to go

April 24th, 2007

With this Ping List you can notify blog directories and search engines that you have written (or updated) a post to your blog. The more services you ping, the better the chance that your posting will get noticed … and that’s what it is all about, isn’t it? Just remember: the more services you ping, the longer it may take to post.

You can also use ping services like Pingomatic, Pingoat, Blogflux Pinger or Feedshark, just to name a few, but these also take a long time.

WordPress tip
If your using WordPress to write your posts, then you can make use of WordPress’s built-in ping function. Just go to Options >> Writing under your Admin Panel and copy and paste the above list under Update Services.

Be smart, beware of spam

And here the Smart Update Pinger plugin for WordPress that will only ping these services with a new post, and not with post updates. As the author of this plugin states it:

… pings to blog services include the URL of your blog, not of a specific post. You should only ping when you have added a new post to your blog since there is no way of telling which post was edited and caused the blog tool (WordPress) to ping. If you edit several already published posts, everyone will cause a new ping frenzy, unless you have Smart Update Pinger installed. You don’t want to be banned for pingspamming, do you? …
